Have a Great Invention but No Way to Make it a Reality?
65Quirky
Have you ever thought to yourself, “I just had the greatest idea” or, “man I wish someone would create something to fix (insert problem here*).” Everyone has, but not everyone has decided to act on those thoughts or knew that they even could. In this article I will list a few easy ways to help make that great idea, invention, or design become a reality and earn some cash while you do it!
Most of us don’t have enough time and money to take our idea to a lawyer to get it protected by a patent, then manufacture and market it to the public in hopes of possibly turning a profit. Fortunately, in the last couple years a few companies have popped up that understand the value in sourcing ideas from the public instead of spending millions of dollars on private research and development.
These new companies work on a social networking platform similar to Facebook that is geared towards the inventor community. They assist in the development of product ideas submitted by people like you and me. Once the invention has been submitted, other members get to vote whether they like it or not. Letting thousands of people evaluate the product before any substantial sum of money is spent developing an idea can save a considerable amount of money in product research, manufacturing and marketing. Another benefit is that the other members who help vote on your idea can also give suggestions on how to make your idea even better than it already is. Once your invention passes the scrutiny of the community, it will be well on its way to becoming a reality.
Edison Nation
Listed below are two of the best companies to get you started, both of them I highly recommend, and have great reputations in mainstream media:
1.) Quirky
- You don’t even have to submit an idea to make money on this site.
2.) Edison Nation
- Your next great idea could get you featured on TV.
Note* One thing that I would suggest before you tell anyone about your idea or submit it to one of these sites is to file a “Provisional Patent” at the US Patent Office to protect your intellectual property. Once you submit the provisional you will be protected for one year and it only costs $125. This is not 100% percent necessary, but it’s always good to be protected, just in case you are sitting on the next million dollar idea.
